Double Blue Pansy in Coloured Pencil
A botanical art tutorial by Emma Tildesley.
In this lesson, we explore a beautiful, bold pansy featuring both strong and soft venation patterns, plus a slightly fiddly centre... so make sure your pencils are nice and sharp!
I’ve used a mix of coloured pencil brands for this piece, but don’t worry if you don’t have the same ones. Simply match the closest colours you have and focus on applying the techniques.
Enjoy! 💙

What you'll need
- Paper: Saunders Waterford 140lbs Hot Pressed size A4
- Faber-Castell Polychromos: Light Cadmium Yellow, May Green, Terracotta, Walnut Brown, Ultramarine, Indanthrene Blue, Dark Indigo, Cold Grey IV, Mauve, Blue Violet, White
- Caran d'Ache Luminance: Bismuth Yellow, Ultramarine, Dark Indigo
- Prismacolor: Cloud Blue, Blue Violet Lake, Imperial Violet, Violet Blue
- Other tools: Putty Rubber
If you do not have all the brands listed just use the corresponding colours in whichever brand you use, for example use Faber Castell Blue Violet instead of Prismacolor Imperial violet. You can always tone a colour down with White or Cold Grey I if you think it is too bold. Focus on building the techniques and don’t worry too much about exact colour matching.
