Introduction to Nature Journaling.

A botanical art tutorial by Emma Tildesley.

For 2023 I thought it would be nice to introduce a year long project that we can do together. Nature journaling is the practice of sketching and writing in a journal or notebook about the natural world. It can be done anywhere, from a backyard garden to a remote forest.

Nature journaling is a great way to practice mindfulness and to bring more awareness to your environment. When observing the natural world, it is easy to become distracted by the hustle and bustle of the digital world. By taking the time to sit and observe the environment, even for a few minutes, you can become more aware of the sights, sounds, and smells that make up the landscape.

Each month we will study our own locations and using whichever materials we prefer we will build up an individual log of the the world around us, capturing the unique features and characteristics of the nature we encounter.

Nature Journaling can be a helpful way to develop your drawing skills. By spending time observing and recording, you can practice your observation and depiction skills, and learn to pay attention to detail.

Overall, nature journaling is a simple yet powerful practice that can help you connect with the natural world, develop your observation skills, and enhance your mindfulness and appreciation of the environment.

In this video we will go through what is nature journaling, where to find inspiration, types of sketchbooks and some information on useful materials.

I hope that you will join me in this new adventure and I can't wait to see what beautiful and interesting subjects you will capture in your journal.
